Who we are?


AGH Solar Plane is a Student Science Club operating at the Faculty of Energy and Fuels at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Our goal is to create an unmanned aircraft powered by solar energy, which will be able to fly from one end of Poland to another - continuously day and night. One of the main tasks during the project implementation is the promotion of alternative energy sources and their cooperation with the latest technologies.

Demonstration model

The presented model is a solar airplane prototype with twelve photovoltaic panels with a total power of 40 W. It is often called by the team "Maluch" due to the small - compared to the second model - dimensions. A span of about 1.6 m and a weight of 700 g make it practical not only for transport, but also for any kind of project presentation. The tests carried out showed that the cruising speed of the aircraft varies between 30 and 40 km/h, and the systems included in it ensure safe and trouble-free flight at the same time.

What counts for us is not only the adaptation of technology to the needs and resources of our planet. We also care about increasing public awareness about renewable energy and the principles of sustainable development.

Innovation

Our airplane is an example of an effective combination of the latest technologies with renewable energy sources. Thanks to this, we want to show the potential of solar radiation in the production and simultaneous storage of energy obtained.

Functionality

We strive to build a structure that will primarily be used in everyday life. Such technology will facilitate and develop activities such as fire detection or assistance in rescue missions.

Development

The result of participation in the project is both the expansion of individual abilities, gaining experience as well as the ability to work in a team. Constant development significantly affects the functioning of the project, which results in the creation of innovative technological solutions.

Programming

One of the key tasks of the section is the selection and programming of electronic circuits, including communication system or on-board computer and creating proprietary software dedicated to the processing of data from these systems. The section is also responsible for the first-person view system with head control, thanks to VR glasses and a webcam placed on the fin.

Power

The main purpose of the section is to create an airplane power supply system that will allow for a long flight without landing. This is related to the design, construction and optimization of the system for generating and storing electricity which is based on high-efficiency photovoltaic panels and lithium-ion batteries supported by an electronic system.

Construction

The section deals with designing aircraft geometry based on numerical analyzes, as well as choosing materials and constructing a structure that meets the conditions of mechanical strength and light transmission for photovoltaic panels while maintaining low weight of the structure.

Marketing

Marketing

The section deals with gaining sponsors, promotion, social media and website support, event organization and documentation. Another task is the implementation of films, promotional photos, reporting progress on the work, and the events in which we participate, as well as the preparation of a multi-camera live broadcast of the flight, including ensuring its continuity in social media.
